Cleaning out a closet or wardrobe might be hard for some people. Some items hold sentimental value and it might be hard for them to part with these items. The thought of giving away or throwing away things that are close to them might just be unbearable. However, that doesn’t change the fact that a full and messy wardrobe needs to be cleaned and decluttered. If you want to be organised at home, cleaning out your personal space is one way to do it.
Why do you need to declutter your wardrobe?
- Do you have a busy life?
- Do you have a passion for buying new clothes as soon as you get your salary?
- Are you a hoarder who finds it hard to get rid of some clothing items?
If you fit into any of these categories, your wardrobe is in deep need of decluttering. If you lead a busy life with no time for other things, your wardrobe might just be full of clothes that you don’t need and don’t use anymore. If you have a passion for buying new clothes, you must have a full closet filled with all the latest and fashionable items that you bought. As for being a hoarder, you have the urge to keep every single piece of clothing that you own because throwing it away breaks your heart. Now is the time to come clean – in the wardrobe.
When to start decluttering your wardrobe?
As human beings, we learn as we grow older that we need to remove the toxic people out of our lives and keep only the positive ones. The same theory applies to your wardrobe. Keep only the essentials and let go of the ones taking space for no reason in your wardrobe. You will realise when you are done that you will freer and much better knowing that another mess in your life has been wiped clean. The best time to start decluttering your wardrobe is to start straightaway. The more you postpone cleaning out your closet, the faster your closet will end looking like a storage unit instead of an actual closet.
How to declutter your wardrobe?
If you have never cleaned out your closet before, you might be confused on how and where to start. Here are a few tips on how to get started:
Remove clothes that need fixing
If it’s an expensive item and it will be worth to get it fixed, keep it. If you don’t need it, take it out. If it will cost a lot to fix it, better to stop it now from causing a dent in your pocket.
Take out clothes that are or appear faded and worn-out.
That means your old pair of socks, inner garments, and pyjamas. You also don’t need underwear and bras that you don’t use anymore. Get rid of shoes that have caused you nothing but pain! Just throw it away or give it to someone else, who enjoys walking in pain.
Do away with jewellery pieces that you don’t need. Remove any jewels that you bought thinking it will look good with a certain outfit. You don’t necessarily have to throw them away – give them to others who might love it; sell it on eBay or Carousell or giveaway to charity.
If you have never used it or don’t need it, let it go.
Remove dirty and unpresentable sneakers that you are not wearing. Sneakers are not cheap but once you have no use for them, what’s the point of keeping them, especially if they do not appear presentable anymore? Sneakers meant for sports use can get quite dirty in appearance and smelly too. If you can’t get rid of the look and smell, get rid of these sneakers as they’re probably not giving your feet the support needed too.
Take out bags that are broken and old
Bags are not cheap closet items, they come at a price but if you don’t have any use for them anymore, just take them out. Bags that are broken and cannot be fixed should be removed. Bags that will cost more to fix than buying a new one do not deserve space.
Give away clothes that don’t fit anymore
If you put on weight or lost weight, you are bound to have clothes you can’t wear. These clothes just take up space for no reason. If you can’t fit in them, just give them away, donate them or sell them cheap. But if you’re selling them, take them out and put them in boxes or bags instead of your wardrobe.
A cleaner, neater and emptier wardrobe
By getting rid of the things that you don’t need from your wardrobe, you will find the end results very pleasant. All because now you can finally get that new pair of jeans or shoes that you have been looking forward to. If this is already what you have been doing, perhaps now is the time to keep that empty space in your wardrobe for meaningful items of clothing. If you can control your spending, you not only increase your bank balance but also keep your wardrobe spacious and clean.
