Last night’s Ms Top of the World Plus Size 2017 grand finals saw fifteen delegates from all over the world competing for the crown, which was eventually awarded by 2016’s winner, Fiona Tan, to Ms Philippines Jodel Padao Mesina.

Miss Singapore Priscilla Boh was named first runner-up and Ms Latvia Victoria Brovuna was second runner-up. The 3-hour long event showcased all the women in their national costumes, some of them even performed on stage before showing off their beautiful gowns. Scores were given by judges based on the delegates’ talents, showmanship as well as poise but there were also points given by the public through online voting, which saw Miss Myanmar Sandy Min Aung winning the People’s Choice award.
In the personal profile interview, Mesina had expressed how she used to be teased and bullied as a child due to her size and being a beauty queen was once a dream that she thought could never happen. However, Ms Top of the World Plus Size has not only allow her to fulfil her dream to become a beauty queen but to also clinch this year’s title! “I dedicate this to my grandmother who turns 99 this year!” exclaimed the Filipino upon winning the crown to a very excited audience – many of whom were her fellow countrymen who came to the event to support her.
Despite being competitors, you could tell that there was a sense of camaraderie among them all and although there can only be one Ms Top of the World Plus Size, all the ladies are winners in their own right as they are all confident women who are unafraid to show the world that being plus sized is beautiful too.
