A recent survey by Telus Health revealed that workplace related stress in Singapore remains a key concern. It is therefore timely for organisations to take proactive steps to create a healthy work environment and Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) is doing its part to support well-being for corporates in the Central Business District.

Targeted at working adults, “Wellness in the City” is SCCC’s new suite of programmes which seeks to promote positive physical and mental health. There are a total of three programmes co-curated by the centre and three local arts and cultural groups: RuanAtWorkz; SAtheCollective; and Drum Feng.

Taking place from February 2025 to April 2025, the abovementioned wellness programmes will range from relaxing sound baths and transformative vibrational healing held during lunchtime on Tuesdays (12.15pm to 1.15pm) and drumming workouts held after work on Thursday evenings (7pm to 8pm). There will be a total of four sound bath sessions; four transformative vibrational healing sessions; and seven drumming workouts. For more details on the schedule of the programmes, please scroll to the bottom.

SCCC’s “Wellness in the City” programme will kick off with RuanAtWorkz’s sound bath sessions on 4 February 2025. Sound bath is a meditative, non-intrusive practice that harnesses the power of therapeutic sounds and overlapping vibrations from traditional instruments such as Himalayan singing bowls, gongs and chimes. During these sessions, participants can either sit or lie down, allowing the soothing vibrations to guide them into a tranquil state. These sessions are aimed at promoting deep relaxation, reducing stress, and fostering emotional and spiritual well-being.

The abovementioned sound bath sessions will be followed by SAtheCollective’s transformative vibrational healing sessions from 12 March to 1 April 2025. Transformative vibrational healing is a combination of energy programming and sound healing. The aim of these sessions is to provide an introductory approach to healing through sound and energy technique using Asian traditional practices.

A Drum Feng HIT! Fitness X Drumming session at Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre’s Concourse

To complement the two mental and spiritual wellness programmes, SCCC has partnered Drum Feng to offer its HIT! Fitness X Drumming workouts taking place at SCCC Concourse in the evenings from 4 February to 27 March 2025. These sessions are targeted at improving physical fitness and participants can also learn Chinese drums and basic drumming skills while engaging in cardio exercises, with the intensity of workouts increasing progressively over each week.

(Note: All the above mentioned wellness programmes are priced at S$30 per session and the lunchtime sessions will include a sandwich pack.)

According to Mr Alvin Tan, CEO of SCCC: “Through our new programme, we hope to achieve two outcomes: first, to support the efforts of local arts and cultural groups to improve physical and mental health through cultural participation; and second, to showcase how participating in arts and cultural activities could combat work-related stress, enhance participants’ mood and lead to positive health outcomes.”

According to Neil Chua, Artistic Director of RuanAtWorkz: “I am excited to be part of SCCC’s Wellness in the City programme as it allows me to contribute to a project where sound and music become tools for healing, relaxation, and personal growth. I deeply value initiatives that prioritise well-being as part of everyone’s daily work lives. This is because, as a Ruan and Singing Bowls instrumentalist, I’ve personally witnessed how music and sound vibrations can create harmony within and around us, helping individuals reconnect with themselves. Moreover, this programme aligns with my passion for creating spaces where people can experience calm, clarity, and renewal and I couldn’t think of a more fulfilling way to share my practice.”

Andy Chia, Artistic Director, SAtheCollective said: “This initiative by SCCC is a powerful platform that celebrates the transformative essence of sound as vibration. I feel honored to contribute to this vision, where sound resonates not only within individuals but permeates spaces, connecting people, places, and energies. This aligns deeply with our belief in the power of sound to transcend boundaries, honoring Asian philosophies of harmony and interconnectedness. Through this journey, we hope to inspire profound connections and offer participants moments of stillness, reflection, and transformation.”

According to Mr Glen Ng, Founder/Music Director of Drum Feng: “Drum Feng is honored to collaborate with SCCC on its Wellness in the City initiative, bringing the transformative power of Chinese drumming to busy professionals in the Central Business District. This meaningful partnership aligns with our mission to promote physical and mental wellness through rhythm and movement. By combining cardio exercises with drumming in our HIT! Fitness X Drumming workouts, we aim to offer a unique experience that rejuvenates the body, mind, and spirit while celebrating culture and creativity.”
