FIJI Water Transitions Iconic Bottles to Recycled Materials, Ushering in a New Era of Packaging

FIJI Water, a natural mineral water from the Fiji Islands, has furthered its commitment to environmental sustainability. The brand’s iconic and popular 500 mL and 330 mL bottles made from 100% recycled plastic (rPET), bottles only, are now available in Singapore. This transition furthers FIJI Water’s commitment to environmental sustainability as the brand replaces nearly 70% of its bottle volume globally with recycled material.*

Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

“In our transition to recycled plastic, we aim to make a truly meaningful and lasting impact,” said Wai Mei Lee, Vice President of International, FIJI Water. “In using recycled plastic, we give new life to existing materials while maintaining the same great taste, look, and quality that consumers expect from FIJI Water.”

FIJI Water: Excellence in Every Drop

FIJI Water, renowned for its clean and exceptional taste, is sourced from an artesian aquifer in the pristine Yaqara Valley of Viti Levu, Fiji. As tropical rain falls on a pristine rain forest, it filters through layers of volcanic rock. The water collects in a natural artesian aquifer, deep below the Earth’s surface, shielded from external elements by confining layers of rock. Natural pressure then forces the water towards the surface, where it is bottled at the source, and remains untouched by human hands till it is opened.

Championing Local and Global Environmental Stewardship

As FIJI Water looks to the future, it has ambitious targets to help the environment and is committed to making a difference. The transition to 100% rPET bottles**, is crucial to the brand’s environmental strategy. In addition, FIJI Water has invested approximately FJ$5 million (SGD 2.98 million) in energy efficiency initiatives on the Fijian islands, including microturbine energy generation and the adoption of low-sulphur fuel standards for shipping, reducing sulphur oxide emissions.

The FIJI Water Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to nurture the Fijian community and environment. This includes providing access to clean water, healthcare services, and funding for local schools and organizations. Since 2007, the FIJI Water Foundation has provided funding to large-scale reforestation and conservation efforts to help preserve and protect the Sovi Basin, Fiji’s most important forest ecosystem and the largest remaining lowland rainforest, in partnership with Conservation International.

FIJI Water is a division of The Wonderful Company, which has a profound commitment to sustainability. The Wonderful Company and its owners Stewart and Lynda Resnick have invested more than $1.3 billion USD in environmental sustainability initiatives to help fight climate change. This commitment includes the largest ever gift for sustainability research of $750 million USD to Caltech, and $50 million USD to Technion-Israel Institute of Technology for research and sustainability. A portion of the research will focus on decomposable plastics, along with tackling issues of water, energy, food, and waste in a world confronting rapid climate change. Moreover, The Wonderful Company is a proud member of RE100, a global initiative made up of some of the world’s biggest companies, which have all committed to using 100% renewable energy.

Embracing Nature’s Essence: FIJI Water’s Packaging Evolution

FIJI Water is also introducing a new packaging design, highlighted by a prominent hibiscus flower emblem, reflecting the tranquility and beauty of nature. This redesign underscores the brand’s commitment to delivering the pure essence of Fiji, encouraging health, hydration, and the joy of living with every sip, while also adding a pop of color to store shelves.
