Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) launches Culturepaedia, a one-stop online repository dedicated to celebrating and documenting Singapore’s unique Chinese culture.
Culturepaedia unlocks a treasure trove of specially curated articles, making it an invaluable resource and reference for educators, students and the general public to learn about the evolution and development of Singapore Chinese culture.
Developed by SCCC’s Research Unit that was set up in October 2022, Culturepaedia is a free platform that covers a wide range of topics on Singapore Chinese culture. About 80 experts and researchers contributed close to 150 articles on communities, language and education, popular culture and media, social practices, literature, art, music and stage performances in the first phase of the project. After the launch, the platform will continue to enrich its content and expand the topics featured.
“Although Singapore has a relatively short history, we have accomplished much culturally and developed our own cultural identity. As culture is dynamic, Singapore Chinese culture continues to evolve with our values, practices, ideas and beliefs being reshaped. Culturepaedia aims to be a comprehensive, reliable and dynamic platform that highlights not just what we have achieved so far but also the changes and developments that are taking place,” said Dr Show Ying Ruo, Research Coordinator and Editor/Culturepaedia of SCCC Research Unit.
The launch of Culturepaedia marks a significant milestone in SCCC’s mission to nurture a better appreciation of Singapore’s rich and unique Chinese culture. Articles in the repository are available in both Chinese and English with additional resources such as suggested further readings, internet links to other cultural websites, relevant videos and audio clips for readers interested in learning more about each topic.
SCCC will continue to work closely with academics, researchers, experts, practitioners and key cultural entities in the public and people sectors to continuously expand Culturepaedia’s content for it to remain a valuable and relevant repository.
