Geneco, Singapore’s No. 1 residential electricity retailer, celebrates its 5th anniversary with Geneco FiVesta. The campaign will see the launch of the #SeedTheFuture initiative on 1st April, which aims to pave the way towards Singapore Green Plan 2030 and build a greener home for all.
The #SeedTheFuture initiative comprises two strategic approaches to ease and encourage more Singaporeans to adopt a greener lifestyle with the following key thrusts.
Go Green Your Way: Power Eco Add-on 2.0
Since offering Singapore’s first and only customisable green add-on for electricity plans to new and re-contracting customers in 2021, Geneco has seen 10 times more customers who have opted for Power Eco Add-on than those who signed up for a conventional green plan before its launch.
Out of those who took up the Power Eco Add-On, almost 40% of customers chose to offset 100% of carbon dioxide emissions in their plans, as compared to 25%, 50% and 75% options that are available. This is an encouraging figure that signals an appetite and mindset shift in consumers as it shows that they are now more willing to prioritise being environmentally-conscious than price-conscious.
Geneco is committed to supporting The Singapore Green Plan 2030 in our shared mission to build a more sustainable future for the nation. With the innovative Power Eco Add-on now being offered to all customers, we are glad to provide an opportunity for more consumers to embrace a greener way of life and do their part for the environment.”
– Mr Lim Han Kwang, Chief Executive Officer of Geneco
Following up on this successful launch, Geneco’s Power Eco Add-On will expand its availability to all of its residential customers starting 1st April onwards, and they look forward to empowering more customers to make green choices for their homes. With this expansion, existing Power Eco Add-on customers will also be able to upgrade their current add-ons via Geneco’s self-service portal and mobile app easily.
A Creative Spin on the Topic of Sustainability
In tandem with the Power Eco Add-on 2.0 launch and #SeedTheFuture initiative, Geneco will be partnering with National Parks Board’s (NParks) registered charity and IPC, Garden City Fund, and Apiary, a popular local ice cream brand. The partnerships aim to further reinforce and raise awareness about the Singapore Botanic Gardens Seed Bank’s efforts to conserve seeds of threatened plant species in Southeast Asia due to climate change and habitat loss.
As a long-term partner sharing the same sustainability-led vision, Geneco has collaborated with Garden City Fund in numerous campaigns, such as #GreenDiscoverSG, #GreenForProsperity¹ and Plant-A-Tree² events, to pledge support for NParks’ City in Nature vision.
“Support from partners like Geneco allows us to continue in our efforts to conserve the seeds and germplasm of plants in Southeast Asia at the Singapore Botanic Gardens Seed Bank, and advance our research in the field of seed preservation and storage. We extend our appreciation to Geneco for their donation and hope it will inspire other individuals and organisations to contribute generously to Garden City Fund to support Singapore Botanic Gardens and its programmes,” said Professor Leo Tan, Chairman of Garden City Fund.
As an extension of its previous collaborations with Garden City Fund, this new initiative serves to educate and spotlight the significance of seed banking in order to sow the seeds to build a greener future, reinforcing Geneco’s unwavering goal to inspire the community and encourage eco-advocacy through meaningful partnerships and public engagement. Geneco will also be donating S$10,000 to Singapore Botanic Gardens Seed Bank through Garden City Fund to advance its research in seed conservation.
To pique the interest of the wider community on the initiative, Geneco has collaborated with Apiary, who specialises in producing premium quality ice cream using natural, fresh ingredients without artificial colouring, to create an exclusive ice cream that is carbon neutral certified by purchasing carbon credits for the emissions produced during the production process.
Made with natively found fruits and seeds, the main flavour of the ice cream is a refreshing calamansi lime that is accompanied with attap seeds, which is one of the seeds conserved at the Singapore Botanic Gardens Seed Bank. The unique ice cream presentation also creatively replicates the planting of seeds; as the attap seeds are placed in a concave dip in the ice cream, which will then be topped off with golden cereal crumbles that have been baked with butter and sugar to represent the soil.
With a perfectly balanced blend of sweet and sour, the combination of flavours results in a zesty treat paired with an enjoyable texture. We’ve taste-tested this ice cream and we give it all thumbs up!!
The limited edition flavour will be available from 1st – 30th April at all Apiary outlets and online store. Geneco customers will enjoy 10% off this exclusive ice cream pint at all Apiary outlets, which comes with separately packed attap seeds and cereal crumbles for the full experience (Usual Price S$19).
“Sustainability is not a popular topic for everyday conversations and we hope to amplify the awareness on the importance of seed conservation, spark the right discussions, and turn them into green practices towards building a greener home for generations to come through this #SeedTheFuture initiative.” Mr Alex Chan, Head of Brand, Communications and Marketing for Geneco shared. “We are glad to have the support of like-minded partners, Garden City Fund and Apiary, who have not only joined us to spotlight the message but also collaborate creatively for our #SeedTheFuture initiative.”
