Skinlycious is the only brand representing Singapore as part of Sephora Accelerate 2020. The six-month-long programme is aimed at building a supportive community for women who are in the early stages of business.

In March 2020, Sephora Accelerate 2020 selected 13 women entrepreneurs from countries such as the United States, United Kingdom and Europe as finalists. Jasmine Kang, Founder, Skinlycious is the only representative from Singapore in the programme.

As part of the programme, women entrepreneurs will be offered mentorship and networking opportunities, a week-long bootcamp and a USD$5,000 grant to develop their business.

Founders were supposed to present their company to industry experts, investors and senior-level Sephora leaders on Demo Day in October 2020. Due to Covid-19, the in-person experience of the bootcamp and Demo Day has been changed to a virtual session instead.

During their week-long bootcamp, they also went through training with experts such as branding and media trainers for Crabtree & Evelyn and Mark Zuckerberg respectively.

There is also a planned visit for programme finalists to travel to San Francisco to pitch to leaders in the beauty industry in November 2020.

“Jasmine from Skinlycious was chosen not only because she excelled in many areas: product innovation, leadership, and team; but she is also a cultural fit due to her eagerness to learn from and to support other female founders in the cohort,” said a spokesperson from the Sephora Accelerate team.

An acne problem inspired the skincare brand

For 14 long years, Jasmine struggled with all the different forms of acne. After trying so many ways to get rid of her acne, she used her biomedical science background coupled with her experience with many anti-acne products to find the right blend of ingredients and concentrations that really alleviated her skin problems.

In 2013, Jasmine Kang started Skinlycious and invested a 5-figure capital to get the company started and Skinlycious was born.

Skinlycious continues to improve and incorporate feedback from fellow acne battlers. Jasmine is also participating in Enterprise Singapore’s Multichannel Ecommerce platform programme to build a customer base beyond Singapore.

“I’m honoured to be offered this opportunity to gain international exposure and networks in the beauty industry. I was really excited to find out that Skinlycious was the only homegrown beauty brand to be selected. I hope to create more opportunities for Skinlycious to expand into more markets and be recognised as an acne skincare brand from Singapore,” said Jasmine Kang, Founder, Skinlycious.
