Did you know over 75% of all blindness and moderate to severe visual impairment are preventable with early diagnosis and vision treatment?
Despite multiple public initiatives aimed at encouraging good eye care habits – including regular eye health checks – more can still be done to raise awareness about eye healthcare amongst the general public.
Slow Down The Progression Of Myopia
High myopia (above -6.00 D) increases one’s risk in developing serious eye conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal detachment – all of which could potentially lead to blindness. However, an overwhelming 54% of Singaporeans have not had an eye health check in the past 12 months. While the progression of myopia can be slowed down by going for comprehensive eye health checks at least once every 12 months, it is unfortunately irreversible.
Ask for an Eye Health Check and Give #Sight4More
Singapore has one of the highest rates of myopia in the world, with the highest prevalence of childhood short-sightedness in early primary school ages. Yet, many parents are not aware that myopia can be a consequence of both nature and nurture. Children with one or both parents who are myopic may have an elevated risk of developing myopia themselves. But through “nurture”, we can slow down the progression of myopia by imbuing certain habits such as daily outdoor activities.
This is why ACUVUE® is kickstarting an eye health movement to inspire Singaporeans to take action when it comes to their eye health as well as help those in need.
This World Sight Day (10 October 2019), Johnson & Johnson Vision announced its aim to increase support to Sight for Kids, one of its flagship CSR initiatives. Through this programme, contact lens brand ACUVUE® will provide 150,000 children in underprivileged communities throughout Southeast Asia with free eye checks alongside school-based eye health education.
For every eye health check completed at a participating optical store in Singapore, ACUVUE® will give #Sight4More to four children through eye health education and vision screenings between now and 31 December.
A Vision Test or a Comprehensive Eye Health Check?
Many Singaporeans associate eye checks with simple vision tests to determine any vision correction needs. What they do not know is that a comprehensive eye health check should screen for signs of potential eye conditions. It includes a detailed screening of the front and back of the eyes and can detect conditions such as glaucoma, signs of cataract and more in their early stages.
Beginning today, take control of your eye health and those of your loved ones, and do good at the same time. You can participate in this initiative and give #Sight4More through any of the following three ways:
- Purchase any ACUVUE® e-ticket via the Official Store on Qoo10 here: https://www.qoo10.sg/shop/acuvue
- Book an appointment for an eye health check at a participating outlet through the MyACUVUE® app. New MyACUVUE® users get a $20 welcome reward for their first purchase of ACUVUE® contact lenses when they download and register.
- Visit a participating optical store and ask for an eye health check.
Existing MyACUVUE® members can also redeem the Sight for Kids lifestyle reward – For 1000 MyACUVUE® points, you can support eight children with eye health education and vision screening.
ACUVUE® will track your participation and calculate donations after 31 December 2019.
