Get ready to embark on a journey towards sustainability at the enhanced Great Green Run (GGR), presented by CIMB, on October 12. Now in its highly anticipated second edition, the GGR will feature an upgraded two-day bazaar and a newly designed route offering stunning views of Singapore’s urban scenery around the Marina Barrage.
The GGR is a sustainability-themed mass sporting event that aims at rallying and inspiring individuals, corporations and communities towards sustainability advocacy. In supporting Singapore’s Green Plan 2030 as well as four of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal [(4) Good Health and Wellbeing, (11) Sustainable Cities and Communities, (12) Responsible Consumption and Production, and (13) Climate Action], GGR seek to foster sustainability-centric lifestyles and actions, like responsible production and consumption, health and mental wellness. Senior Parliament Secretary Baey Yam Keng will be attending as the Guest of Honour, with the Singapore Environment Council serving as the event’s Certification Partner.
Participants can choose between two distances – 5km and 10km – making the GGR suitable for athletes of all ages and experience levels. The minimum age for the 5km and 10km categories has been lowered to 7 and 13 years old, respectively, allowing more families to bond while staying active. The 5km and 10km runs are priced at $48 and $58, respectively. The 10km event will start at 7:45 a.m., followed by the 5km event at 8:15 a.m, both starting from the Marina Barrage. Runners will receive an interlek-certified run jersey and, upon completion of run, a unique finisher’s medal made from recycled wood. For every registration, the organiser will donate $2 to Community Chest, the philanthropy and engagement arm of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS) of Singapore, supporting more than 100 social service agencies.
This year’s GGR promises an enriched experience with exciting new additions designed to inspire and promote sustainability within the community, forming the perfect weekend activity for all. Central to the GGR 2024 is the vibrant Green Bazaar from October 12 to 13, which will feature a specially curated selection of sustainability-centric vendors. Attendees can explore over 50 stalls offering a range of food & beverage options, pre-loved and vintage retail selections as well as informative, fun-filled workshops.
This year, GGR welcomes new partners, including homegrown zero e-waste sustainability platform myhalo and global automotive brand Omoda. As the event’s Official E-Waste Impact Partner, myhalo aims to encourage sustainable device management and help participants extend their device lifespan. GGR participants can look forward to exclusive services and incentives including free custom-cut screen protectors to protect their devices as well as giveaways at the GGR. Omoda is GGR’s Official Car Partner, and attendees of the GGR can get a first look at the recently launched all-electric Cat A Omoda at the event.
Participants will also stand a chance to win exciting prizes – including flights to Lahti, Finland and Bhutan (inclusive of a half-day tour to see Bhutanese sustainable living in action, and a local dinner for two) courtesy of the Ministry of Tourism, Bhutan, as well as Brompton bicycles – in the Lucky Green Draw conducted on October 12. GGR is proud to partner with Brompton, a British brand Brompton recognised for its commitment to sustainability and recently awarded B Corp Certification for meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency.
To enter the Lucky Green Draw, runners must place the tear-off portion of their race bib into a box on event day. Winners will then be drawn from that box and upon being selected, the winner will have to produce their race bib to claim their prize. But the fun has already begun with even more prizes up for grabs every week on GGR’s Facebook and Instagram. Instructions on how to enter the weekly giveaway can be found on the respective posts.
