LOVE, NILS, a charity founded by a mum who lost her son to complications from cancer, launched its ‘Shine a Light on Childhood Cancer’ campaign in conjunction with International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, throughout September.
Following its great success last year, the aim of the ‘Shine a Light on Childhood Cancer’ campaign is to raise awareness and funds for children and their families who struggle with a cancer diagnosis. Represented with a gold ribbon, just like the precious metal, the colour symbolises how precious children are, and the resiliency of these childhood cancer heroes.
You can participate in the campaign through three simple ways, Lights – Camera – Action. Reinforcing the colour theme of this campaign, you can light up your room with gold lighting. You can also dress up in gold and tag LOVE, NILS with their new themed stickers on Instagram stories. Most of all, you are encouraged to donate generously through fundraising.

In support of the ‘Shine a Light on Childhood Cancer’ campaign, Singapore Sports Hub lit up the National Stadium dome in glittering gold sparkles on 3rd and 4th September. In addition to that, LOVE, NILS is also running a digital campaign on giving.sg until the end of September to encourage people to donate to the cause.
Along with the ‘Shine a Light on Childhood Cancer’ campaign this year, LOVE, NILS is also hosting their very first art exhibition – “Stories of Hope”. Running from May until September, the art pieces on display at the East Garden Gallery in Fullerton Hotel have been created by children with cancer around the themes of self-portrait, future hopes and dreams, and their superpowers, under the guidance of LOVE, NILS’ licensed art therapists.
Lesli Berggren’s son, Nils, was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma cancer at the age of 13. She spent a year and a half navigating her son’s cancer, in and out of hospitals in Singapore and Seattle. Nils eventually beat cancer, but unfortunately succumbed later to complications arising from a stem cell transplant. Recognising a need for emotional and community support for families battling cancer, in 2017, Lesli founded LOVE, NILS, a Singapore registered charity that provides healthcare guidance, emotional care, social and community support to children with cancer and their caregivers.
