Now, what if someone told you that you could increase your chances of pregnancy success through your diet? I’m sure most couples who are longing for a little one would try their best to eat clean or do their research on what types of food would help with the hormones (for the females, especially) or improve libido (for the men, perhaps?). But it can get quite tiring and troublesome to plan every single meal with that in mind.

That’s where twoplus Fertility comes in, with Singapore’s first-ever Fertility Meal Plan – crafted with love by a fertility dietician and a top-notch chef.

So they promise no boring salads or tasteless chicken in their meals, which are a celebration of local flavours packed with all the good stuff needed for fertility. This is good news for those who are trying their best to get a dragon baby this year!

But, how do the meals actually taste and is it just another play on healthier food delivery? We went on a week’s trial meal to experience firsthand whether twoplus Fertility’s Fertility Meal Plan has birthed a new go-to solution for couples or is it merely a healthy meal plan?

Fertility meal plan’s background

What twoplus Fertility has done is to merge the expertise of Australia’s leading fertility dietician with a local head chef to provide the perfect combination of macronutrients and micronutrients crucial for fertility. With ingredients rich in folate, zinc, iron and antioxidants, these meals provide a powerful foundation for enhancing reproductive health.

Dietitian Catherine Chong, APD Certified Fertility & Prenatal Dietitian, underscores, “Couples planning to conceive should start optimising their diet three to six months before conception. A balanced diet rich in antioxidants and essential nutrients can enhance egg quality and sperm health.”

Dr. Ruben Alvero, MD (Obstetrics & Gynecology), adds, “All individuals trying to conceive could benefit from Meals for Fertility. It can take a while, which is why you should start a fertility diet as soon as possible.”

In other words, if you’re hoping that the Fertility Meal Plan will help you conceive, you do need to start the plan early enough and it will take some time so, do be patient.

The meal plan

I only got the lunch meals sent but it is good to know that there is variety in their meals and the menu changes week by week. Definitely no boring meals! Which is very important when you want to eat healthy but yet delicious food. Moreover, with a menu like that, it does set certain expectations in terms of flavour and it was nice to look forward to certain dishes the day before.

As mentioned, I had the chance to review the meal during my confinement so it was a relief for me because cooking is often the last thing on my mind since I was busy breastfeeding/pumping and catching up on sleep. For the first two meals, they were delivered to me in the morning while the next three meals were delivered together. As such, all I needed to do was to pop it into the microwave and heat it up.

In terms of taste, twoplus Fertility’s meals are definitely packed full of flavour and I love how it was familiar but yet also foods that you wouldn’t be able to easily recreate in your kitchen. As such, you do feel like you’re treating yourself to a healthy and wholesome meal.

As the meals were delivered cold, this meant that they were probably cooked the day before. Moreover, the three meals that were delivered together definitely meant that subsequent meals were in my fridge a day and two days before consumption. This meant that all the vegetables were kept just as long and if you subscribe to TCM, eating overnight veggies is a no-no due to the belief that it creates gas in your stomach. While I don’t truly follow TCM, I do know that I do get gassy when I eat vegetables that have been kept overnight, so lo and behold, the week that I was on the Fertility Meal Plan was my gassiest yet. I also question whether the nutritional content is optimal since vitamins and nutrients are lost with time.

This is in stark contrast to the confinement meal plan that I had subscribed to before this Fertility Meal Plan kicked in, where the food is delivered fresh daily. Thus, I do think that it is important to deliver freshly cooked food so that the food’s nutrient-loss is minimised and people who have sensitive stomachs or guts will not have any unwanted reactions. After all, the key point of these meals is to optimise the nutrients to boost one’s fertility.

Final thoughts

Like what Hippocrates said, “Let food be thy medicine” so I do think that it is important to eat healthy if you want to increase your chances of conceiving. Most of us aren’t nutritionists and with our busy lifestyles, it is definitely hard for us to watch every single ingredient and plan every single meal. As such, plans such as this Fertility Meal Plan can definitely help couples on this front.

As mentioned on twoplus’ website, you will need more than 30 days to see some results because it takes 85 to 90 days for an egg to mature prior to ovulation¹ while it takes 65 to 75 days for sperm to regenerate².  And, both partners eating a healthy diet will help to promote both sperm and egg quality so it is worth going on a healthier diet to improve your chances of conceiving.

Nonetheless, it is not the main and only solution to cure your fertility woes and should be taken together with other solutions such as exercise or twoplus’ various products and other solutions as suggested by your doctor.
