If you exercise at home, have you ever wondered if you’re doing it right? Wonder no more as you can use your Singapore’s Skillsfuture credits and learn from one of Singapore’s highly-sought personal fitness trainers!

Chung Tze Khit is currently running Singapore’s National Council on Strength & Fitness (NCSF), a leading fitness certification organisation based in the USA that has a fast-growing global community of more than 250,000 certified personal trainers to date. The programme’s main goal? To train, equip, and certify individuals to become professional personal fitness instructors!

But Tze Khit shares that only 25% take up the course to actually become a trainer. The majority pick it up to learn more about their body and physical fitness. As the principal trainer of the certificate program, Chung Tze Khit has trained the likes of Gurmit Singh (Celebrity), Jia En (Fitness Influencer), and Kingsley Tay (National Volleyball Coach), and more who attended the highly sought-after Personal Trainer Course to equip themselves with fitness knowledge.

Home workouts are not exactly a new fad, they started decades ago but we saw a resurgence of YouTube fitness content creators during the COVID-19 pandemic. As home workouts become more popular, improper techniques will eventually lead to muscle strains and prolonged rests, destroying consistency in any routines.

The revival of YouTube fitness content raises another concern, how certified are the content creators? The most basic requirement for trainers is the Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) qualification and there are various internationally recognised certification providers to earn it.

Although most fitness YouTubers display their certification, some do not have the required certificate. An Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Physical Therapy Program shared that people who are extremely fit sell, and there is the danger of “blind-followers”, copying unsafe routines, which may cause more harm than good.

NCSF SG is here to help! NCSF SG, a training school for aspiring personal trainers and sports nutritionists, offers subsidised Certified Personal Trainer Course (CPT) and Sports Nutrition Specialist Course (SNS) to Singaporeans fitness enthusiasts to equip them with fitness and nutrition knowledge, appropriate exercise techniques, and the nutrition they need for optimal growth – an important portion that YouTube content creators lack.

With a mission to equip all Singaporeans with the knowledge of safe fitness, NCSF SG partnered with SkillsFuture and NTUC UTap to provide affordable courses. Singaporeans only need to pay as low as S$150 to be professional #fitster. Students will learn about safety issues, health and fitness assessments, and program design for fat loss or muscle gain.
