Leylah Fernandez has won the singles title at the 2026 Singapore Tennis Open presented by BNP Paribas, capping a nine-day tournament that also saw Erin Routliffe and Aldila Sutjiadi take the doubles crown.
The sixth-seeded Canadian defeated Australia’s Talia Gibson 7-5, 6-0 in the final at The Kallang. The victory gave Fernandez her sixth career singles title and her second at WTA 500 level.
Fernandez completes a strong week in Singapore
The final began as a close contest, with Fernandez edging the first set 7-5 before taking control in the second. She won the second set without dropping a game to secure the championship.
Fernandez credited the Singapore crowd with helping her through the week, saying the support gave her extra energy during difficult moments. She also pointed to the balance between attacking and defending as a key part of her performance in the final.
The Singapore title adds to a season in which Fernandez has continued to build experience at higher-level WTA events. The 2026 tournament was Singapore’s first staging of the event at WTA 500 level.
Routliffe and Sutjiadi take the doubles title
In the doubles final, Erin Routliffe and Aldila Sutjiadi defeated Tang Qianhui and Xu Yifan 6-3, 6-2. After a competitive opening stretch, Routliffe and Sutjiadi pulled away to secure their second title together this year.
The pair said they had enjoyed competing at The Kallang and highlighted the strength of the local support. They also expressed hope that more large-scale tournaments would be held in the region.
About 50,000 fans attended across nine days
The Kallang Group said the tournament attracted about 50,000 fans and spectators from 19 to 27 September, more than double the attendance recorded in 2025.
This year’s programme went beyond the main draw. Free qualifying matches, live screenings, player meet-and-greets and activities at the Fan Zone gave spectators more ways to take part. More than 900 students were also given a behind-the-scenes look at how an international professional tennis tournament operates, while community clinics brought fans onto court with tournament ambassadors.
The event also introduced a dedicated Singapore Tennis Open hub in The Kallang App, where spectators could access match information, activities and offers. A separate industry forum, The Kallang Spotlight, brought together athletes and sports leaders to discuss leadership, fan experiences and the growth of women’s sport.
Singapore’s junior players also had a strong week
The tournament week included competitions aimed at developing younger players in the region. The Kallang Tennis Hub hosted the World Tennis Asia 12 & Under Team Competition Finals as well as the Singapore Tennis Invitational Cup.
Singapore successfully defended its Singapore Tennis Invitational Cup title with a 3-2 win over Indonesia in a repeat of the 2025 final, while Malaysia finished third after beating Cambodia 3-1. The competition gave local players the opportunity to face regional opponents alongside the wider WTA tournament programme.

Singapore Tennis Open to return in 2027
The 2026 Singapore Tennis Open featured a 28-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles draw, with more than US$1.2 million in prize money available across the tournament.
The event is scheduled to return in 2027. Organisers said the next edition will build on this year’s first WTA 500 tournament in Singapore.
