Looking to occupy your children (and yourselves) during the upcoming holidays? Here are some ideas that will allow the whole family to relax, explore or unleash their creative sides!
Dreamseeds Arts Festival
The 6th edition of Dreamseeds Arts Festival (DSAF) returns virtually from 27 Nov to 1 Dec 2021 and the 5-day virtual event will be packed with concert performances, film screenings, workshops and an interactive virtual art gallery that will allow the whole family to participate from the comfort and safety of home.
The theme for this year is ‘Prism of Imagination: Infinite Possibilities’. It is an expansion on last year’s ‘Prism of Imagination’. Viewers will embark on a space mission with Club Rainbow (Singapore)’s (hereafter referred to as CRS) beneficiaries to infinite possibilities.
New to DSAF this year is the incorporation of components like a storytelling approach for the Opening Video Concert, community collaboration between beneficiaries and seniors, and movement exploration in the arts.
The Opening Concert Video will feature behind-the-scenes of CRS’s performing arts immersion programmes and music mentorship. For the first time this year, there will be selected interviews from the beneficiaries and programme collaborators and CRS emcee beneficiaries are being mentored by Kamini Ramachandran, a pioneer in the Singapore and Asia storytelling scene, who will be co-hosting the concert video.
The Virtual Art Gallery features artwork from CRS’s beneficiaries who have worked closely with local artists to create thoughtful artworks inspired by the world around them. The artwork uses various mediums such as 3D diorama artmaking. Named the ‘House of Wonders’, it is a community collaboration between five beneficiaries and five pairs of seniors from Kampung Admiralty Active Ageing Hub, led by Jaxton Su.
Performance highlights for the concert video include ‘Here We Dance’, a collaborative dance-making project with four of CRS’s youths, facilitated by local dance company Rolypoly Family. There will also be an energetic performance by beneficiaries from CRS’s Hip Hop arts exposure programme supported by local dance studio Converge Studios.
The event is free and accessible via their website https://www.dreamseedsfest.org.
‘Airplane Mode’ art workshops, exhibition & retail
Graduates and students from Laselle College of Arts have come together to organise and launch Airplane Mode, an event happening at GR.ID Mall (former POMO) for two months from November to December 2021. Showcasing local artists, the event aims to promote the art culture and creativity of Singapore and will feature various creative workshops, independent retail brands and an exhibition of creations.
The concept behind ‘Airplane Mode’ is to serve as a reminder to disconnect from the noise of one’s devices and life; and to enter a space that’s meant for reflection and appreciation for art and creativity.
Featuring 10 different workshops conducted by various local brands, Airplane Mode will allow Singaporeans to tap into their creative side and explore the possibilities of their own creations using different mediums from fabrics and textiles to music, painting and digital art.
All workshops will be conducted in compliance with safe distancing measures and will thus allow for more intimate sessions.
More information about the workshops can be found via their website.
