They say that with every dark cloud, there is a silver lining and this couldn’t be more true for Beatrice Liu-Cheng, co-founder of Oriental Remedies, a fast-growing Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) clinic group with over 60 years of combined experience among its physicians.

“When my mother was suddenly diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer back in 2016, she was adamant about not partaking in any conventional medicine,” shared Beatrice.

Determined to support her mother through this difficult period, the pair opted to make lifestyle changes instead, embarking on a journey to explore the world of TCM treatments. It quickly grew apparent that the various TCM treatments Beatrice’s mother underwent were effective, helping to ease pains and enhance her overall quality of life, in line with her decision to cherish each day and live well amidst the trying circumstances.

It was during this time that Beatrice began to discover her passion for wellness solutions, having witnessed firsthand how her mother was free of the unpleasant side-effects that conventional cancer treatments would have caused, and allowed her to live life to the fullest. Even up to her last days, Beatrice’s mother was mobile and free of any severe pain, outliving her initial prognosis.

Touched by how the treatments and lifestyle changes increased both the quantity and quality of time she had with her mother, Beatrice’s passion for TCM was ignited. She started to venture into the distribution of wellness products and supplements, with the hope of doing the same for others under similar circumstances. Along the way, she met Physician Leong Weizhen, who was single-handedly running her own clinic, known as Oriental Remedies Inc., at the time. Together, they merged their different knowledge and skill sets and launched Oriental Remedies.

With physicians who are trained in both TCM and Biomedical Sciences, Oriental Remedies believes in adopting an integrative approach towards its treatments. This is the first among TCM clinics in Singapore, done by incorporating both medical technology and traditional perspectives from TCM to customise the best possible treatment for each patient. One such example is Oriental Remedies’ popular Electro-Lymphatic Drainage Therapy (ELT), a gentle and non-invasive treatment that stimulates proper flow and drainage of the lymphatic system, simulating the effects of a lymphatic drainage massage or Tuina, without the pain and pressure. ELT is performed using an FDA-registered wellness device to boost patients’ overall wellness. This modern take enables Oriental Remedies’ to offer patients its unique edge of using comprehensive diagnostics through scientific therapies to accurately pinpoint areas of concern, while staying true to the use of TCM at the core of treatment.

Oriental Remedies has a team of 13 effectively bilingual physicians and therapists across its two clinics in Singapore, all of which are well-equipped with scientific knowledge and wisdom from TCM. Within just the first half of the year, Oriental Remedies has already exceeded its 2020 revenue despite 2021 only being halfway through.

This is probably because Oriental Remedies has an integrative approach that incorporates both medical technology and traditional perspectives in their treatments.
