Watch a magic show…or two!
Playing the Hand
Playing the Hand by Darren & Jerryl, a live virtual theatrical magic show by Singapore’s youngest magic duo will stream live on weekends from 6 – 15 August 2021, at either 4.00pm or 8.00pm.
Part of Flipside, presented by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, audiences can expect “front row seats” on a journey through the two best friends and illusionists’ real life adventures, stitched together by clever magic and comedy. The interaction-driven experience will have audiences share their own anecdotes, plus become their own curators of wonders as they create moments of miracles live, along with the cheery pair.
Each vignette draws on the familiar yet immerses viewers into a different world as they touch on identity and authenticity, all while inspiring wonder and roaring laughter.
“With Playing the Hand, we want to champion our vision of fighting hard for our passion and going against the grain. Ambitious as it seems, but through this show and our stories, we hope to inspire people to pursue their passion and get out of their comfort zones,” says Jerryl Tan.
Bringing the wonders of magic from their living room to yours, audiences are invited to re-examine the notions of perception and introspection. As part of the duo’s unique brand of theatrical magic, the show comes with a Mystery Package, that’ll equip audiences with curious oddities, such as 3D glasses, anamorphic illusions and more.
Tickets for “Playing the Hand by Darren & Jerryl” are available for purchase at S$30 (excluding GST and booking fees) via SISTC at www.sistic.com.sg/events/zlhand0821 or Esplanade at www.esplanade.com/playingthehand.

Get evidence-based brain training and healing
Following the string of distressing news from tragic cases as well as the return to Phase 2 (Heightened Alert), many are feeling depressed and demoralised from the constant onslaught and disruption to their livelihoods. With this, it is important to focus on mental health and besides speaking to counsellors, therapists or psychologists, why not try out MindLab?
Created by Santiago Brand, a sports and clinical psychologist, and Silva Wetherell, a mental health counseller, MindLab uses state-of-the-art evidence brain training with the latest technology to optimise mental and physical health.
The first step involves an initial assessment where the team learns how one’s brain and body work. This helps determine the best intervention to meet the individual’s needs. After determining the most appropriate intervention, the team will move into the training phase with biofeedback and neurofeedback, where they teach clients to self-regulate by using their own brain and body signals. The fun part is that clients can play a video game or a movie by solely using their brain, controlling the feedback with their brain waves and (in a way) thoughts.
The biofeedback services offered at MindLab can help stress management while wearable technology (e.g. special goggles and biophotomodulation) is used to reinforce brain training programmes, and is suitable for individuals aged 6 and above.
