Playing the Hand

Playing the Hand by Darren & Jerryl, a live virtual theatrical magic show by Singapore’s youngest magic duo will stream live on weekends from 6 – 15 August 2021, at either 4.00pm or 8.00pm.

Part of Flipside, presented by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, audiences can expect “front row seats” on a journey through the two best friends and illusionists’ real life adventures, stitched together by clever magic and comedy. The interaction-driven experience will have audiences share their own anecdotes, plus become their own curators of wonders as they create moments of miracles live, along with the cheery pair.

Each vignette draws on the familiar yet immerses viewers into a different world as they touch on identity and authenticity, all while inspiring wonder and roaring laughter.

“With Playing the Hand, we want to champion our vision of fighting hard for our passion and going against the grain. Ambitious as it seems, but through this show and our stories, we hope to inspire people to pursue their passion and get out of their comfort zones,” says Jerryl Tan.

Bringing the wonders of magic from their living room to yours, audiences are invited to re-examine the notions of perception and introspection. As part of the duo’s unique brand of theatrical magic, the show comes with a Mystery Package, that’ll equip audiences with curious oddities, such as 3D glasses, anamorphic illusions and more.

BELIEVE – A Virtual Magic & Mind Reading Show Experience

Have an art tour of one of Singapore’s oldest artists

Take this opportunity to soak in an audio-guided tour involving one of Singapore’s oldest and pioneering artists, Lim Tze Peng, at The Art Passage by Ode to Art from 3 August to 30 September 2021. Entitled “Gotong Royong”, this collection features unique and comprehensive artwork spanning decades in the making. With more than 20 exclusive works, visitors will get an overview of the artist’s evolution and a glimpse into the development of his love for Singapore throughout his life. Given his tremendous contributions to the local art scene, the recent book launch “Soul of Ink: Lim Tze Peng at 100” in June this year even saw Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong attending as Guest-of-honour.

Go on an urban arts adventure

If street art if more your style, you can still go on an art adventure while supporting home-grown artists at the Hall of Fame @ Kampong Gelam. Keeping the visitor experience fresh with a slew of new neighbourhood art programming, the precinct invites explorers to dive deeper into the world of street art.
