Top Family-friendly Destinations for 2018

The June (or Summer) holidays are coming soon and parents usually have a tough time picking a family-friendly destination as well as choosing what to do there. Look no further as we reveal the hot list for family travel as curated and picked by luxury travel operator, Scott Dunn.

Langkawi, Malaysia

The tropical island paradise is just an hour’s flight from Singapore, with the rainforest and coral reef within 100 metres of each other. Families can spend a day at the beach, hiking up to Gunung Raya which is the highest peak in Langkawi, or visit the various wildlife parks.

Sri Lanka

Ani Villas in Sri Lanka

Most people may not necessarily think of Sri Lanka as a family vacation spot but it really is topping the list as it has a diverse range of experiences – from white water rafting, horse riding and whale watching to spotting leopards in Yala National Park. Foodies would also revel in the abundance of fresh seafood available.

Lapland, Finland

This is the ultimate Christmas gift to children living in the tropics – introducing them to Santa Claus in the snow white Finnish Lapland. Full of treasured memories (the kind that fairytales are made of), a trip to Lapland can include encounters with elves, reindeer and huskies.

This winter wonderland offers the perfect opportunity to catch a glimpse of the elusive Northern Lights while admiring the incredible views of the Lappish wilderness. Spend a night at the original Ice Hotel for a once-in-a-lifetime experience, where it is literally one of the coolest places to stay in the world. The hotel is built to a new design each winter and guests are able to experience sleeping in temperatures of -5oC.

Jordan and Oman

Dead Sea

If your family is adventurous and likes the outdoors, these small nations pack a huge punch in terms of experiences. Families can camp under the stars, ride camels amongst the dunes and sand board in the desert while also taking part in endless watersports on the coastline. Children will also love floating on the Dead Sea.

Ideal times to visit are Easter, May half term and October half term.

Dolomites, Italy

Most people think of the major cities when it comes to Italy but the Italian mountainside becomes a playground for active families when the snow melts. Children aged seven and above will be able to make the most of activities such as rock climbing, mountain biking and hiking. The family run Rosa Alpina lodge is an idyllic backdrop for a summer getaway with a range of restaurants as well as an extensive selection of spa treatments for the adults.

Regardless where you choose to holiday, do check out services such as Scott Dunn’s “Flying Nannies” where nannies can be booked on request, arriving with age appropriate toys and host of fun filled adventures lined up for the children while parents can get some much needed downtime while on holiday.

There also are some Kids Clubs run by travel operators or the hotel itself, where there will be experienced staff who organise huge variety of activities to ensure children have an amazing holiday, whatever their age. Remember to also take note of some of our travel tips to ensure that you’re good to go for a fun family vacation!
