New Case Reports Shine Light on an Emerging Area of Care

Three Singapore patient case studies have recently been accepted by the Australian Spinal Research Foundation (ASRF), bringing international attention to the role of upper cervical chiropractic care in managing chronic neurological symptoms. Each case focuses on individuals who had long struggled with issues such as severe facial nerve pain, chronic dizziness, and progressive hearing loss.

What the ASRF Reports Reveal

The case reports documented the progress of:

  • A 72 year-old woman and a 45 year-old woman with Trigeminal Neuralgia (also known as Suicide Disease for the extreme pain and sense of helplessness it causes in sufferers)
  • A 29 year-old man with Meniere’s disease and two years of hearing loss

All three underwent upper cervical chiropractic care at a Singapore clinic specialising in this niche area. Across the cases, improvements were observed in pain levels, nerve irritation, dizziness episodes, and—in the case of the Meniere’s patient—an unexpected return of hearing function later confirmed by his Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) doctor after audiometry testing.

Understanding the Upper Cervical Approach

Upper cervical chiropractic care focuses on the top two vertebrae of the spine, an area closely associated with the brainstem, cranial nerves, balance systems, and autonomic function. Because of its neurological influence, even minor misalignments in this region may place excessive pressure on the nerves in the spinal cord, disrupting clear communication between the brain and body. Thus, contributing to symptoms involving dizziness, vertigo, neuralgia, sensory disturbances, and headaches.

The clinic noted the drastic reduction of facial pain in the two female patients after 12 to 36 visits of chiropractic care, enabling them to sleep normally, brush their teeth and re-engage with their families.

Why These Findings Matter for Patients

The ASRF’s acceptance of these reports underscores a growing international interest in how targeted, non-invasive approaches may support recovery in complex presentations.

One common thread across the three cases is that each patient had spent years seeking answers, often consulting multiple specialists and undergone several medical tests, and one even had her teeth removed in the hope that it would lessen her facial pain, but to no avail.

While upper cervical care is not a cure-all, it is the key to improved health as seen from these cases, which highlight its potential value as a complementary solution for individuals with persistent dizziness, facial nerve pain, or unexplained neurological symptoms.

A Supportive Option for Individuals Seeking Clarity

The clinic behind these cases, Vitality Chiropractic Singapore, has built its practice around supporting those who feel overlooked or stuck in their health journeys. Many of their patients arrive after years of trying various treatments. The clinic’s structured assessments, emphasis on neurological function, and personalised care approach offer a pathway for those still searching for options.

“Patients often come to us after years of anxiety and suffering, having gone through rounds of medical checks, diagnoses, and medication that do not appear to help them. We hope to raise awareness of what we do so that those who experience pain or other diseases, even with medical care, may consider a visit to a chiropractor as an additional course of therapy,” says Shaan Daniel Rai, Founder, Vitality Chiropractic. “Our practice focuses on the upper cervical spine because I believe that it is where my work is most meaningful in helping those with debilitating pain and dizziness or other cranial nerve issues regain hope and get their lives back.”

Moving the Conversation Forward

As these case studies are now part of the ASRF’s growing catalogue of international chiropractic research, they contribute to a broader understanding of how upper cervical care may enhance quality of life for individuals with chronic, complex symptoms. For patients, it signals that there are still avenues worth exploring—particularly approaches grounded in both structure and neurophysiology.
