SG60 Weekend: A Community Celebrates

Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) is proud to present SG60 Weekend: A Community Celebrates, a vibrant two-day cultural celebration co-organised with Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) and SCCC’s arts residents to commemorate Singapore’s 60th birthday. Taking place from 28 to 29 June 2025, this event transforms the SCCC and Singapore Conference Hall into buzzing hubs of Chinese arts, culture and heritage.
For the first time, SCCC has curated a free open house event where the public will have the rare opportunity to go behind the scenes, participate in hands-on activities, and interact with SCCC’s participating arts residents comprising Drum Feng, Reverberance, Tampines Arts Troupe and Nam Hwa Opera.
This special weekend also brings together family-friendly performances, hands-on workshops, and ticketed showcases by local Chinese arts and cultural groups and key programme highlights would include:
-
The Story Keepers: A free interactive theatre experience for children featuring well-known myths of Singapore such as the tales of Kusu Island, Redhill and Radin Mas.
-
Ode to Singapore by SCO: A free musical tribute celebrating six decades of unity and growth and showcasing selected artworks by 60 young children which depicts their imagined future for Singapore.
-
Taking Flight 2025: A ticketed vibrant and youthful dance performance by dancers from the Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre.
“SG60 Weekend is the first joint effort by SCCC, SCO, our arts residents, and local arts and cultural groups to come together and commemorate our nation’s 60th birthday by opening up our arts spaces, staging performances and workshops, and showcasing local Chinese arts and culture. Through our programmes and activities, we hope that the public will get to know our local arts groups better, enjoy their cultural encounters, and become fans and friends of these groups,” said Alvin Tan, Chief Executive Officer of SCCC.
Terence Ho, Executive Director of Singapore Chinese Orchestra shared, “SCO and SCCC share similar missions – to inspire our people with the beauty of Chinese arts and culture. SCO’s gift to the nation is Ode to Singapore, a two-day concert all about Singapore! The Sunday show is specially dedicated to our migrant workers, the silent heroes contributing to nation building.”
Goh Wei Hong, Executive Director of Reverberance, said, “We’re honoured to be one of the arts residents at the SCCC starting this year. This is a meaningful step forward as we continue to champion Chinese wind and percussion music through innovative work. We’re also excited to share this passion with the public at the upcoming open house event through an engaging, hands-on experience.”
Zhang Tian Xiao, Artistic Instructor of Nam Hwa Opera, added, “We are happy to be part of the SG60 Weekend festival and to continue sharing the beauty of Teochew opera as a long-time arts tenant at SCCC. This celebration reminds us of our belief that the fusion of tradition and innovation will write an even more brilliant chapter for Singapore’s cultural future.”
Whether you’re a parent looking for meaningful weekend activities, an avid lover of performing arts, or someone exploring local Chinese arts and culture for the first time, SG60 Weekend: A Community Celebrates promises an inclusive and inspiring experience for all.
