Art Exhibition of the World’s First Sculptures of Chinese Zodiac Animals made from upcycled flip-flops
Date: 2 to 31 January 2023
Location: Level 1 Atrium and around the mall
i12 Katong welcomes the auspicious Year of the Rabbit with a plethora of attractive promotions, rewards, and exciting events, as well as an Art Exhibition of the world’s first sculptures of Chinese Zodiac Animals made from upcycled flip-flops.

Commissioned and handcrafted by six talented Kenyan artists from OCEAN Sole Africa, a non-profit and social enterprise with a mission to clean polluted beaches and provide careers to artisans in high-impact communities; the spectacular displays are inspired by the legacy and tale of the Chinese New Year zodiac animals and will be unveiled to shoppers on 2 January 2023.

To usher in the Year of the Rabbit, a 3-metre-tall rabbit sculpture will take centre stage at the mall’s atrium on Level 1. Made over 21 days from 2,875 pairs of worn-out and discarded flip-flops, the impressive sculpture depicts the rabbit’s abundance and longevity, while raising awareness of the tangible impact that our lifestyles can have on the environment. The vibrant colours further add to the art’s overall cheerfulness and complement the festive celebrations of Chinese New Year.

The zodiac sculptures are a part of i12 Katong’s drive to spotlight novel art collaborations driven by sustainable practices, in line with Keppel Land’s commitment to sustainability. To raise awareness of the importance of sustainable living, the artists behind these exhibits aim to not only create beautiful works of art, but to also promote conversations about environmental issues.

i12 Katong invites shoppers to embark on a hunt to find the 12 Chinese zodiac animal sculptures around the mall. Follow the trail and submit the correct answers to 12 simple questions at the Level 3 Concierge Counter to redeem up to S$20 worth of vouchers from participating retailers.
