It wasn’t just theory in a slide deck\, it was real\, relevant\, and designed for impact.  Each week built on the last\, covering everything from the history of sexology to anatomy\, communication\, consent\, sexual diversity\, and cultural competence. I loved the balance of evidence-based content with inclusive\, pleasure-positive approaches that reflect the realities of modern relationships and sexual health. One of the absolute highlights for me was the triad work. I learned so much from my triad mates\, their perspectives\, experiences\, and feedback added layers to my understanding that I could never get from the handouts alone. It made the learning richer\, more dynamic\, and so much more human. I’m walking away with language\, strategies\, and confidence that I can apply in my advocacy. This wasn’t just education; it was equipping me with my sexology “superpowers” for life.” – Brightly Abby\, 12 Aug 2025 (3rd intake) \n“Human beings are really complicated and there are even more permutations when people get into relationships. There’s no one size fits all approach to relationships or sexual relationships and we do not all have to fit into the social construct to be okay. i.e.\, Sex does not have to be only penetrative to be called sex.” –  Shayne\, Week 10 Couples Therapy and Sex Therapy (3rd intake) \n“It’s given me the opportunity to reflect on a deeper level about my sexuality\, as well as my partner’s sexuality in a manner that has opened up more conversation\, exploration\, and awareness in our relationship. Discussions with my partner also helped me understand how a client may need to be incredibly mindful of the safety and reassurance they offer their partner when having such discussions.” – Anonymous\, Week 7 Sexual Fantasies\, Kinks\, and Pornography (3rd intake) \n“This week’s theme on listening\, framed through the three dimensions—Listening to What is Said\, Listening to What is Felt\, and Listening to What is Emerging—has significantly deepened my personal growth and understanding of sexuality education. This integrative listening approach fostered a more holistic and compassionate engagement with the subject\, reinforcing the importance of both cognitive and emotional receptivity in sexuality education.” – Catherine Toh\, Week 5 Communication Skills in Sexology (3rd intake) \n“I often struggle to balance the differences between couples\, especially when compromises often come from the partner that is more exploratory. It is interesting to hear that with safety and respect for the lower libido/ desires\, it invites the other partner to explore out of their comfort zone. Although we agree that the incompatibility might sometimes mean couples choose to go their separate ways\, the focus on creating safety gave both partners a chance to consider their partner’s preference.” – Alicia Phua\, Week 5 Communication Skills in Sexology (3rd intake) \n“One of the greatest new insights I gained was just the vast amount of knowledge a sex counsellor had to have. And that makes sense because as much as sex is not spoken about in public usually\, there are so many aspects of sexuality and it is only ethical for a sex counsellor to be adept in the knowledge.” – Julian Lim\, Week 1 Introduction to Sexology \n“I appreciate you so much Martha! This course was fantastic in it’s depth and range of topics. You treat so many difficulty/sensitive topics with respect and role model the practice of Sexology with grace and humour. I hope to be as impactful as you are in my work. Thank you\, thank you\, thank you for all that you have done to create this program. Thank you for being such an incredible voice of allyship. You have set the bar very high and I won’t let you down. The content you focus and teach on is of high value and importance in societies throughout the world. I am excited to embark on this new path\, armed with this training to embolden me.” – Chrystal Toop\, 25 June 2024 (2nd intake) \n“Thank you for giving me a great insight learning and have a different exploration of the whole course.” – Anonymous Student\, 25 June 2024 (2nd intake) \n“Very comprehensive course. Really appreciate sharing your personal experiences. Thank you so much!!!” – Anonymous Student\, 25 June 2024 (2nd intake) \n“Martha is a generous in her vulnerability and authenticity as an educator and practitioner. This course is important for any therapist to attend as sex and sexuality are not talked about especially in Asian families and in an Asian context. Sex and sexuality is an important facet of human relationship and functioning which has gone changes and meaning as time evolved. It is especially important for counsellors to learn about such topics more especially in crafting healthy sexual conversations with our young and what they need to know.” – Tonia Goh\, 12 Dec 2023 (1st intake) \n“Sexuality is one of the major components in life to most of the people\, while it is not a comfortable topic to talk about especially in Asia. Similarly\, such a professional course is rather rarely conducted in the educational field\, even in Singapore. The structure of progamme and coverage of planned topics is relevant and wide\, facilitating a better disposition as a professional helper with the added knowledge and skill sets when serving the concerned clienteles.” – Krish Phua\, 6 Dec 2023 (1st intake) \n“Dr. Martha’s expertise in evidence-based sexuality is exceptional. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn her framework\, gaining confidence in supporting clients with both relationship and sexual concerns. This certification provides a holistic overview\, combining macro and micro skills\, filling a crucial gap in the field. Thank you\, Martha\, for offering this invaluable certification and for offering to provide continuous support.” – Sharinder Kaur\, 16 Nov 2023 (1st intake) \n“A taboo topic which has rooms for more attention and awareness. Sexual health is as important as physical and mental health. A holistic approach and wellness to life.” – Shaza Teo\, 16 Nov 2023 (1st intake) \n“Great info and education for all mental health professions.” – Eve\, 11 Aug 2023 (1st intake) \n\n💖 This will be our 4th intake due to popular demand. 💖 \nGet your non-obligatory virtual informational session here. \nStudent Bonus: All previously recorded virtual trainings estimated to be worth S$1k for one year. SUMMARY:Theatre: The Parting Glass
DESCRIPTION:This September\, Gateway Arts will transform a live music gastrobar at Gillman Barracks into the setting for an intimate story about love\, loneliness and the emotional struggles that often remain hidden. \nRunning from 2 to 13 September 2026\, The Parting Glass is Gateway Arts’ first immersive\, site-specific theatre production. Instead of watching from a conventional auditorium\, audiences will be seated inside The Blackbird\, sharing the same social space as the characters and experiencing the story from only a few steps away. \nOriginally written by British playwright Chris O’Connor\, the play has been adapted for Singapore audiences by local theatre practitioner Krish Natarajan. Samantha Scott-Blackhall\, Artistic Director of Gateway Arts\, directs the production\, with Rishi Vadrevu and Juliana Kassim Chan playing the central couple\, Jim and Sarah. \n \nWhen Love Does Not Resolve Loneliness\nAt first\, Jim and Sarah’s relationship appears warm\, affectionate and familiar. As they revisit their time together\, however\, their memories begin to reveal the emotional distance that can exist even within a loving relationship. \nJim is funny\, dependable and well-liked—the person who turns up for his friends and rarely gives anyone a reason to worry. Beneath that outward ease\, he carries struggles that he finds difficult to communicate\, even to those closest to him. \nThrough the couple’s story\, The Parting Glass Singapore explores whether someone can be surrounded by love and friendship yet still feel profoundly alone. It also examines the assumptions people make about those they believe they know well\, and how emotional distress can remain invisible in ordinary social settings. \nThe production touches on depression\, isolation\, masculinity and the pressure some men feel to remain self-reliant. Rather than presenting emotional distress through a dramatic confrontation\, the play considers how it can emerge through quieter moments\, strained communication and the gradual withdrawal of someone who does not know how to ask for help. \nTheatre Within a Familiar Social Setting\nStaging the play inside The Blackbird places audiences directly within Jim’s world. The bar is not simply a backdrop; it represents the routines\, friendships and sense of belonging that shape his identity. \nBy removing the distance between performers and audience members\, the production aims to make the characters’ humour\, affection and heartache feel more immediate. The everyday venue also reinforces one of the play’s central ideas: a person may be struggling even while appearing comfortable and connected within familiar surroundings. \nTicket holders can receive 15% off food and beverages at The Blackbird by presenting their show ticket. The venue will also offer a co-branded speciality beverage called “The Parting Glass” during the production’s run. \nContinuing the Conversation After the Show\nEagles Mediation & Counselling Centre (EMCC)\, the production’s presenting sponsor\, will support a post-show discussion after every performance. \nLed by EMCC counsellors and joined by mental health practitioners and people with lived experience\, the discussions will allow audiences to reflect on the play’s themes and ask questions about mental health\, relationships and emotional wellbeing. \nEMCC counsellors will also be available at the venue before and after performances to share information about available support. In addition\, ticket holders may apply for one of 30 complimentary individual counselling sessions\, offered on a first-come\, first-served basis. Redemption details will be provided in the programme booklet. \nEvent Details\nDates and times: \n\n2 September 2026\, 8pm — Preview\n3 September 2026\, 8pm\n5 September 2026\, 7pm\n6 September 2026\, 3pm\n8 to 10 September 2026\, 8pm\n12 September 2026\, 3pm and 7pm\n13 September 2026\, 5pm\n\nVenue:\nThe Blackbird\nGillman Barracks\n8 Lock Road\nSingapore 108936 \nDuration: Approximately 75 minutes\, with no intermission \nRecommended age: 16 years old and above. Audience members under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. \nTickets:\nPreview: S$30\nStandard: S$45 \nPrices exclude SISTIC booking fees. Tickets are eligible for the SG Culture Pass. \nBook tickets: SISTIC \nContent advisory: The production contains themes of depression and references to suicide. As this is an immersive production\, audiences will experience the story in close proximity to the performers. \nEach performance will be followed by a post-show discussion facilitated by Eagles Mediation & Counselling Centre. \n\nImages: Gateway Arts

SUMMARY:BMDP Hosts Free Family Storytelling Event for World Marrow Donor Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:Families looking for something educational to do with their children this September can learn more about blood\, marrow donation and helping others through a free interactive event at Woodlands Library. \nThe Bone Marrow Donor Programme (BMDP) will hold Olly’s Adventure to Hope: Storytelling & Mission Adventureon Saturday\, 19 September 2026\, ahead of World Marrow Donor Day on 22 September. The 90-minute programme combines simple hands-on activities with storytelling and is suitable for children aged five and above. \nComplete three adventure missions\nFrom 2pm to 3pm\, children will receive an Adventure Passport and make their way through three activity stations. \nThe first introduces children to blood and the role it plays in keeping the body healthy. At the second station\, a matching game helps explain why patients who require a marrow transplant need to find a suitably matched donor. \nFor their final mission\, children can decorate a feather with a thank-you message for marrow donors before adding it to BMDP mascot Olly’s wings. Participants receive a stamp in their Adventure Passport after completing each activity\, and the stations can be visited in any order. \nStorytime with a haematologist and marrow donor\nAt 3pm\, families can gather for a reading of Adam’s Adventure: Saving Sarah’s Smile\, a children’s story centred on friendship\, courage and community. \nThe session will be led by Dr Joanne Lee\, a senior haematologist who is also a marrow donor herself. This gives families an opportunity to hear about marrow donation from someone familiar with both the medical process and the experience of being a donor. \nChildren who participate in the storytelling session will also receive a goodie bag. \nBMDP mascot Olly will also be making an appearance during the afternoon for families who would like to take photographs. \nIntroducing children to marrow donation\nThe event forms part of BMDP’s activities for World Marrow Donor Day 2026 and Blood Cancer Awareness Month. \nRather than going deeply into the medical details\, the programme uses games and storytelling to introduce younger children to concepts such as healthy blood\, donor matching and why people choose to become marrow donors. \nBMDP currently manages Singapore’s volunteer marrow donor register. According to the organisation\, the registry has grown to more than 130\,000 donors over the past 32 years and has facilitated more than 1\,000 patient transplants. \nEvent details\nOlly’s Adventure to Hope: Storytelling & Mission AdventureDate: Saturday\, 19 September 2026Time: 2pm–3.30pmVenue: Woodlands Library\, Level 4Suitable for: Children aged 5 and aboveAdmission: Free \nFor more information about the Bone Marrow Donor Programme\, visit BMDP’s website. \n\nImages: BMDP
