SUMMARY:Great Green Run 2024
DESCRIPTION:Get ready to embark on a journey towards sustainability at the enhanced Great Green Run (GGR)\, presented by CIMB\, on October 12. Now in its highly anticipated second edition\, the GGR will feature an upgraded two-day bazaar and a newly designed route offering stunning views of Singapore’s urban scenery around the Marina Barrage. \nThe GGR is a sustainability-themed mass sporting event that aims at rallying and inspiring individuals\, corporations and communities towards sustainability advocacy. In supporting Singapore’s Green Plan 2030 as well as four of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal [(4) Good Health and Wellbeing\, (11) Sustainable Cities and Communities\, (12) Responsible Consumption and Production\, and (13) Climate Action]\, GGR seek to foster sustainability-centric lifestyles and actions\, like responsible production and consumption\, health and mental wellness. Senior Parliament Secretary Baey Yam Keng will be attending as the Guest of Honour\, with the Singapore Environment Council serving as the event’s Certification Partner. \nParticipants can choose between two distances – 5km and 10km – making the GGR suitable for athletes of all ages and experience levels. The minimum age for the 5km and 10km categories has been lowered to 7 and 13 years old\, respectively\, allowing more families to bond while staying active. The 5km and 10km runs are priced at $48 and $58\, respectively. The 10km event will start at 7:45 a.m.\, followed by the 5km event at 8:15 a.m\, both starting from the Marina Barrage. Runners will receive an interlek-certified run jersey and\, upon completion of run\, a unique finisher’s medal made from recycled wood. For every registration\, the organiser will donate $2 to Community Chest\, the philanthropy and engagement arm of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS) of Singapore\, supporting more than 100 social service agencies. \nThis year’s GGR promises an enriched experience with exciting new additions designed to inspire and promote sustainability within the community\, forming the perfect weekend activity for all. Central to the GGR 2024 is the vibrant Green Bazaar from October 12 to 13\, which will feature a specially curated selection of sustainability-centric vendors. Attendees can explore over 50 stalls offering a range of food & beverage options\, pre-loved and vintage retail selections as well as informative\, fun-filled workshops. \nThis year\, GGR welcomes new partners\, including homegrown zero e-waste sustainability platform myhalo and global automotive brand Omoda. As the event’s Official E-Waste Impact Partner\, myhalo aims to encourage sustainable device management and help participants extend their device lifespan. GGR participants can look forward to exclusive services and incentives including free custom-cut screen protectors to protect their devices as well as giveaways at the GGR. Omoda is GGR’s Official Car Partner\, and attendees of the GGR can get a first look at the recently launched all-electric Cat A Omoda at the event. \nParticipants will also stand a chance to win exciting prizes – including flights to Lahti\, Finland and Bhutan (inclusive of a half-day tour to see Bhutanese sustainable living in action\, and a local dinner for two) courtesy of the Ministry of Tourism\, Bhutan\, as well as Brompton bicycles – in the Lucky Green Draw conducted on October 12. GGR is proud to partner with Brompton\, a British brand Brompton recognised for its commitment to sustainability and recently awarded B Corp Certification for meeting high standards of verified performance\, accountability\, and transparency. \nTo enter the Lucky Green Draw\, runners must place the tear-off portion of their race bib into a box on event day. Winners will then be drawn from that box and upon being selected\, the winner will have to produce their race bib to claim their prize. But the fun has already begun with even more prizes up for grabs every week on GGR’s Facebook and Instagram. Instructions on how to enter the weekly giveaway can be found on the respective posts. \nPresenting sponsor\, CIMB Singapore has been an active proponent of the ESG agenda and is the first ASEAN bank to sign up to the industry-led\, UN-convened Net-Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA)\, a member of the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ). The bank is also continuously stepping up on sustainability innovation to achieve its ambition to become a leading focused ASEAN bank and a sustainability leader. This includes the Cooler Earth Series – CIMB’s platform to engage and connect with stakeholders through a combination of innovative partnerships and financial solutions to build resilience while addressing challenging issues that affect wellbeing and livelihoods. In 2022\, CIMB Group announced its sustainable finance target of RM60 billion by 2024 under the Group’s Green\, Social\, Sustainable Impact Products and Services (“GSSIPS”) Framework. This target was achieved ahead of schedule\, leading to an increase in the target to RM100 billion by 2024. As of December 2023\, CIMB has mobilised over RM80 billion in sustainable finance and is on track to meet this revised target. \nRegistration for the GGR is now open and will end on September 8. SUMMARY:Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre Stages First Showcase Of Local Street Buskers!
DESCRIPTION:On 18 October 2024 at 8.00pm\, the Concourse at Singapore Chinese Culture Centre (SCCC) will be transformed into a vibrant showcase of Singapore’s best street talents when SCCC present its first ever TGIF Music Station (Buskers Edition). \nLaunched in 2018\, TGIF Music Station is a free monthly programme which takes place on a Friday night and seeks to showcase both emerging and established local talents in the Mandopop scene. Through TGIF Music Station\, SCCC hopes to promote greater public awareness and appreciation of local talents\, enliven the Central Business District\, and instill pride in Singaporean arts and culture. \nSince its launch\, SCCC has organised a total of 152 sessions and featured a total of 496 local artistes. These sessions have attracted a total of 53\,615 participants and 6 million online views during live streams on SCCC’s social media platforms such as Facebook and TikTok as of August 2024. \nFor its October 2024 TGIF Music Station\, SCCC will be featuring a total of 10 local buskers. These buskers range from young talents such as Lyla Ng (age 11) to senior groups such as Silver Hype comprising Gillian Goh (age 69) and Davidson Teo (age 65) as well as popular buskers who have released singles and EPs as WHYLUCAS and Jeff Ng. \nAccording to Gillian Goh of Silver Hype: “We are grateful to SCCC for the opportunity to perform to a new audience. Through busking on the streets\, we hope to set a positive example of how age should not stop you from doing what you love and to inspire more youths to pursue their dreams\, especially in music. If we can do it\, you can do it!” \nLyla Ng\, added: “I’m excited to perform on TGIF Music Station on 18 October as this is my first time performing at SCCC and I will also be sharing the stage with many of my fellow buskers! Learning and performing Mandarin songs in public has not only allowed me to better appreciate Chinese culture and language but has also improved my academic results! I hope to meet more friends and fans at TGIF Music Station!” \nSCCC Chief Executive Officer Alvin Tan said: “Through SCCC’s TGIF Music Station (Buskers Edition)\, we hope to support our local busking community by providing them with a platform to showcase their talents and interact with their fans\, and help them reach a wider audience both physically and digitally. Moving forward\, SCCC will organise a buskers edition every October and continue to feature at least one busker for every upcoming TGIF Music Station to provide more sustained support for the busking community.” \n\nImage: Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre
