SUMMARY:Run for Hope 2020
DESCRIPTION:Since its inception in 1993\, the annual Run for Hope aims to raise much-needed awareness\, funds\, and support for cancer research\, with the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) as the beneficiary. \nMore than 10\,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year\, with the disease accounting for 1 in 4 deaths in Singapore. Hence\, it is no longer rare to find someone we know who is or was affected by cancer. Research projects spearheaded by National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) are crucial in bringing hope to all who live with the shadow of cancer in their lives. Through continuous support\, Run for Hope can make a difference in the lives of those affected. \nIn light of existing government regulations and current sentiments towards large-scale events\, the Run for Hope organising committee has decided to convert Run for Hope 2020 into a virtual run. \nThe virtual run will take place from 4 November to 31 December 2020. \nThis is to ensure that we provide the safest possible experience for our participants\, while still \nsupporting cancer patients and research in Singapore. \nThe 3.5km and 10km race categories will remain the same\, but a new 25km category has been added for runners who want to run a longer distance. Runners can choose to complete their chosen category in one go\, or run the distance over a few runs within the period of 4 November to 31 December 2020. \nIf you are already a registered participant\, no additional action is required on your part as your run slot will be automatically converted to the new virtual run. Please visit this link for a step-by-step guide on how to submit your run results. \nRegistrations through our Run For Hope 2020 website will remain open until 2359 Hours on 31 December 2020 for all who want to support this worthy cause. Participants’ race packs will be couriered to their mailing addresses upon submission of run results. \nPlease keep a lookout on our website www.runforhope.sg and our Facebook page for further updates. You may also support our cancer cause by making a donation towards cancer research through https://www.giving.sg/campaigns/rfh2020 \nDates: 4 Nov to 31 Dec 2020 \nYou can get more information and sign up at this link: www.runforhope.sg \n\nImage: Run for Hope

Join us as we celebrate womanhood and challenge gender stereotypes\, broaden perceptions and celebrate individual female achievements! \nSince its inception in 2017\, the Serengeti Girls Run has become a highlight on the events calendar. Singita has just released the dates for the third annual event\, which is held in partnership with the Grumeti Fund in Singita Grumeti\, a private 350\,00-acre concession in Tanzania. \nEntries are now open for this iconic three-day\, 63km run through the vast plains of the Serengeti\, taking place from 27th October to 1st November 2020. The entire experience spans five days and this all-women run will support the empowerment of girls in adjacent rural areas. \nThe multi-stage event is suitable for runners of all levels who will encounter an abundance of wildlife and breathtaking scenery as they cover 21 km each day. The women will be accompanied by scouts from the Grumeti Fund Anti-Poaching Unit\, and a support team in a shadow vehicle to take care of their safety and comfort throughout the entire event. \nOn completion of the run\, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the Grumeti Fund’s community and conservation programs\, including a 5km fun run and career fair for local high school girls. They’ll also visit the Anti-Poaching Canine Unit and take a tour of the new center for Research and Innovation in the Serengeti Ecosystem (RISE). \nThis exclusive experience\, which is part of Singita’s collection of ‘Safaris with a Purpose’\, is aimed at raising funds for empowerment programs for girls. Donations to the Grumeti Fund assist in running empowerment events for 5\,000 high school girls\, including the provision of sanitary pads for one year; and scholarships for 80 local secondary school learners for vocational studies and university. \nSingita Sabora Tented Camp\, situated on the plains of the Serengeti\, is the luxurious base for five nights. Participants will return to the utmost comfort to recuperate after each day’s run\, experiencing a quintessential tented safari under canvas. Following a redesign\, Sabora’s new look will be unveiled in June 2020. Each of the nine tented suites will feature a private meditation deck with views of the surrounding grasslands\, a beautifully curated in-room pantry and an outdoor deck with daybeds. With tents set close to the ground\, guests are continuously connected with the sights and sounds of the bush. \nEarly evening game drives provide a front-row seat to incredible game-viewing in this exclusive protected reserve in the western corridor of the Serengeti\, and guests have the opportunity to book restorative massages in the treatment room or in the comfort of their suite. \nThis is an inimitable opportunity to experience a Serengeti safari while contributing to the empowerment of girls in Africa. The Serengeti Girls Run 2020 takes place from 27 October to November 1. The experience costs S$6\,240 per person (single) or S$4\,855 per person (sharing) for the all-inclusive 5-night package (full board)\, including return flights on Grumeti Air from Kilimanjaro International Airport to Singita Grumeti; and an additional tax-deductible donation to the Grumeti Fund of S$21\,500 per person (single) or S$11\,790 per person (sharing)\, used to fund empowerment projects for girls and women. \nSpace is limited and so to book a place\, please email Katherine Cunliffe at info@grumetifund.org. \n\nImages: Serengeti Girls Run \n

SUMMARY:Empower Girls & Women Through a Run Across the Serengeti
DESCRIPTION:Following on the incredible success of the Serengeti Girls Run in 2018\, Singita and the Grumeti Fund are thrilled to announce that entries for the 2019 event are officially open. The all-women run forms part of Singita’s signature collection of conservation safaris called “Safaris With A Purpose\,” and is held in partnership with the Grumeti Fund to support the empowerment of girls and women in rural Tanzania. \n \nComprising five all-inclusive days at Singita Sabora Tented Camp\, this year’s itinerary includes a variety of activities and a run that will see participants complete 21 kilometres daily over 3 days\, traversing some of the most iconic wilderness areas in Africa. \nThe multi-stage event invites runners of all levels to cross the vast plains in Singita’s private concession in the western corridor of the Serengeti\, where they’ll encounter an abundance of wildlife and breathtaking scenery at every turn. They will be accompanied by expertly trained\, experienced anti-poaching scouts from the Grumeti Fund\, who’ll keep an eye out for curious animals\, while a support team in a shadow vehicle will be on hand to take care of their safety and comfort. \n \nThe event’s home base\, Singita Sabora Tented Camp\, is an intimate 1920s-inspired explorers camp that embodies the magic of a bygone era. Featuring opulent chandeliers\, Persian rugs and bowls filled with fresh roses\, it provides a space for the runners to rest and recuperate at the end of every day. \nThe exclusive\, purpose-driven experience is aimed at raising funds for empowerment programs for girls and women\, which are focused on providing opportunities for women to become leaders in conservation. Each donation assists in funding numerous non-profit initiatives\, including scholarships for local girls in secondary school\, vocational studies and university; training girl mentors and providing life skills and internships; as well as enterprise development training for women and environmental education for girls from local secondary schools. \n \nSerengeti Girls Run offers participants various opportunities to engage with the women who benefit from these programmes. The day after their arrival\, guests can join girls from the local community on a short 4km fun run\, followed by a career fair\, where they can share their own inspiring stories with hundreds of girls from neighbouring villages. \nDuring the five-night itinerary\, the participants will also visit the Grumeti Fund’s Environmental Education Center\, which hosts week-long courses for local students on conservation and minimising our impact on the Earth\, as well as an opportunity to meet the Fund’s anti-poaching team to find out how they preserve and protect the region’s critical ecosystem. \nThis year’s event will take place from October 25-30\, 2019. The experience costs US$8\,500 per person (single) or US$6\,000 per person (sharing) for the all-inclusive 5-night package\, including Grumeti Air return flights to Kilimanjaro; an additional tax-deductible donation to the Grumeti Fund of US$16\,500 per person (single) or US$9\,000 per person (sharing)\, used to fund empowerment programmes in the Serengeti. \nTo book your place\, email Katherine Cunliffe\, info@grumetifund.org or visit www.singita.com \n  \n\nPhotos: Singita

SUMMARY:Workshop With Ultra Trail Champion
DESCRIPTION:Calling all running enthusiasts! This July\, Hong Kong Tourism Board has invited Ultra Trail Champion Stone Tsang to Singapore to share some personal tips and training techniques. Hailed as one of the best trail runners in Asia\, Stone is a two-time top 10 finisher of the Ultra Trail World Tour and the top Chinese finisher in the history of the Ultra Tour Monte Rosa (UTMR)\, taking 1st place in UTMR 2017. \n \nStone Tsang works as a Paramedic Ambulance first responder for the Hong Kong Fire Service Department and he took part in his first marathon when he was 25-years old\, entering with the intent to just have fun with his colleagues. With no prior training and experience\, he finished the race with a disappointing record of 5 hours leading to severe muscle aches and cramps. That kick-started his race career and despite his late entrance into the sport\, he turned to international competitive trail running in just a few short years. He was the first Hong Kong Chinese to win the Action Asia Challenge and was 8th and 10th overall in the Ultra Trail World Tour in 2014 and 2015. He has been the top Chinese finisher and top 20 overall on multiple occasions in Europe’s UTMB\, one of the world’s top mountain running competitions. Now\, the father of two devotes his time between his career\, training\, family as well as projects that give back to the sports and trails conservation. \nHong Kong is known for its many mountains and trails\, suitable for all levels of sports enthusiasts\, from leisure walkers to pro-athletes. Thus\, Stone is the best spokesperson to share with all running enthusiasts on how to train for competitions and to share his favourite training trails in Hong Kong. \n \nDuring this limited session in Singapore\, he will also share about his experience in the prestigious Hong Kong 4 Trails Ultra Challenge (HK4TUC)\, which challenges participants to cover 298km distance and 14.5km positive elevation in less than 60 hours. Stone Tsang is one of the only six finishers to have ever completed the challenge\, coming in with the second best record in the HK4TUC history to date. \nThis event is part of the ‘ActiveSG Running Series 2019’. Aside from the sharing from Stone Tsang\, other experts and trainers will also be invited to give tips on training\, conditioning\, stretching\, fuelling and recovery. \nEVENT DETAILS (by registration only):\nDate: 6 July 2019 (Saturday)\nTime: 8am to 2pm\nVenue: Sport Singapore Auditorium (Sportshub)\nRegistration Link: https://www.myactivesg.com/whats-on/event/2019/7/activesg-running-series-2019\nRegistration Fee: $10 (ActiveSG Members can pay using up to 100% of their ActiveSG Credits) \nFor more info on the workshop\, please visit: \nPROGRAMME: \n\n\n\n0800\nRegistration\n\n\n0815\nMass ViPR PRO Workout by ActiveSG Trainers\n\n\n0900\nTrail Running in Hong Kong’s Great Outdoor by Stone Tsang\nTraining and Preparing for overseas competition\nSharing of Great Outdoors and Sports Events in Hong Kong\n\n\n1000\nFuelling Tips by SportSG Sports Science Institute\n\n\n1100\nStrength and Conditioning by Ms Liew Wei Yong\, TLC\n\n\n1130\nStick Mobility Masterclass by Dr Justin Lee\n\n\n1230\nRecovery Drills by ActiveSG Athletics Club\n\n\n1315\nQ&A\n\n\n1345\nRecovery Session by Dr Justin Lee\nTips to prevent running injuries for good – Change from the inside out\n\n\n1400\nEnd\n\n\n\n\nPhotos: Hong Kong Tourism Board

\nStone Tsang works as a Paramedic Ambulance first responder for the Hong Kong Fire Service Department and he took part in his first marathon when he was 25-years old\, entering with the intent to just have fun with his colleagues. \n \n  \nDuring this limited session in Singapore\, he will also share about his experience in the prestigious Hong Kong 4 Trails Ultra Challenge (HK4TUC)\, which challenges participants to cover 298km distance and 14.5km positive elevation in less than 60 hours.
